Newtown High School Lists Scholarships
The Career Center publicizes all scholarships of which it is notified. A few of the scholarships, typically national ones, request that money be enclosed with the application. The Career Center believes that students should not have to pay to apply for scholarships.
If a student chooses to apply for a scholarship that charges a fee, however, the Career Center strongly advises that he or she first check its authenticity through the FTC Consumer Response Center, www.ftc.gov or 877- FTC-HELP, the National Fraud Information Center, www.fraud.org or 800-876-7060 or the Better Business Bureau, www.bbg.org or 703-276-0100.
Newtown Scholarship Association â The Newtown Scholarship Association provides scholarship awards to graduating high school seniors from Newtown who plan to continue their education. The scholarships are based on financial need. All applicants will have a personal interview by the Awards Committee. Applications are available in the Career Center and are due by April 13.
Young Agriculturalist Achievement Award â One $1,000 award will be presented to a deserving Fairfield County young person (ages 16â25) who is involved with any of the numerous and varied aspects of agriculture. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 15.
Live Out Loud Scholarship â A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender and have made significant contribution to society just by âliving out loud.â Award criteria are based on academic credentials, personal essay, past leadership and community service involvement, an interview, financial need, and future goals. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be submitted by March 31. Additional information is available at www.liveoutloud.info.
Newtown Bridle Lands Association 2006 Memorial Scholarship â In memory of Linda Souza, NBLA is pleased to offer a $500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Newtown High School or the Ellis Clark Regional Agri-Science and Technical Center. Applicants must be a current resident of Newtown or have a parent or guardian who is a current member of NBLA. The applicant must also be accepted to a post-high school program leading to a degree in equine science, veterinary science, or the environmental sciences including agriculture, animal husbandry, ecological studies. or forestry. The deadline to submit an application is May 1.
Dunkinâ Donuts Scholarship Program â This program will award 100 separate $1,000 scholarships to âwell-roundedâ high school seniors from Connecticut: those who excel academically, demonstrate leadership qualities, and have been involved in activities within their schools and communities. The application process is entirely online at www.dunkindonuts.com/scholarship. The deadline for applications is April 1. Basic information is available in the Career Center.
Head Oâ Meadow PTA Scholarship â The Head Oâ Meadow PTA will award two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors from Newtown High School who attended Head Oâ Meadow School. Applicants must rank in the top half of the graduating, and have been accepted to a postacademic program and be in compliance with the Code of Conduct of Newtown High School. The application deadline is April 28. The Career Center has applications.
Hannah Griswold Grant â The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International will award one $750 scholarship to a graduating minority senior planning to major in education. The grant is renewable. The Career Center has applications. The application deadline is March 17. Applications must be returned to the Career Center.
Elizabeth Sonier Grant â The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International will award one grant of $750 to a graduating senior planning to major in music education. The grant is renewable. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be received by March 17. Applications must be returned to the Career Center.
Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund â This scholarship fund awards more than 2,000 four-year, merit-based scholarships to students attending one of the 47 members schools, which are all Historically Black Public Colleges and Universities. Information about the fund is available at www.thurgoodmarshalfund.org.
Arthritis Foundation Scholarships Ââ The Arthritis Foundation is offering $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors or college undergraduates with juvenile arthritis or another rheumatic disease. Students must be a resident of Connecticut. Copies of applications are available at infor.sne@arthritis.org. The deadline for applications is April 14.
