Three Artists Will Exhibit At WAA

WASHINGTON DEPOT — The works of three artists will be on display at Washington Art Association (WAA) until March 26.

Sam Thurston enjoys working under different circumstances and with different mediums.

“I work in a number of different ways … so if I am struck by the beauty of what is on my tabletop one day, I paint that,” says the artist, “and if I am fascinated by an inner mood that I think I can express as a gesture, I will make a sculpture of it on the next day.”

Oil painter Marjorie Kramer is passionate about drawing, perception, spaciousness. She always works on-site, and will exhibit pieces done in a variety of locations — from the woods near her Vermont home to gas station parking lots.

“Painting and drawing call forth a special form of attention that I don’t see anywhere else — very evolving and needing my best energy to be any good,” she says.

Jolene Powell explores imagination, memory and consciousness through the process of creating paintings.

“Most of us have a landscape place in our minds where we go that contains our memories, dreams, and daydreams,” she says. “Once mentally in that place, a remembrance occurs … that reminds us all of time passed.”

WAA’s art gallery is in Bryan Memorial Plaza, on Route 47. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, noon to 5 pm. For more information call 860-868-2878.
