Girls 8th

Newtown 49, Bethel 24 – Jennifer Dailey record a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds to helped lead Newtown past Bethel. Nicole Elias, Kate Bowen and Kaitlin Marsden each netted seven points and combined for 29 rebounds while Lyndsey Burns chipped in four points.

Newtown 38, Brookfield 27 – Anchoring a strong box-and-one defense, Ally Modzelewski led Newtown to a league championship-clinching win over rival Brookfield. Jennifer Dailey scored 16 points and was 8-of-14 from the line while Sara Kelley netted 11 points and Kaitlin Marsden added six.

Monroe 62, Newtown 43 – Newtown finished 11-1 and captured the regular-season league title, but it suffered a tough loss to Monroe in the playoffs. Sara Kelley canned 17 points and was 5-of-5 from the line to lead the offense. Jennifer Daily added 10 points while Kate Bowen and Lyndsey Burns combined for 13 more.. Kristen Errico was strong off the boards.

Boys 7th

Newtown 58, Bethel 56 – Josh Engler poured in 18 points, made five steals and hauled in eight rebounds and Sean Maher came up with a critical steal in the waning seconds as Newtown defeated Bethel in the semi-finals of the Fairfield County Basketball League B Division. Matt Datin added 14 points and 10 rebounds while Kyle Vignone scored eight points and playing tenacious defense, shutting down Bethel’s best player. Robbie Carroll and Nacewicz came off the bench to add defensive spark and much needed points. Ishan Tatake hit the biggest of his three three-pointers late in the fourth quarter with Bethel threatening and Newtown clinging to the slimmest of leads.

Newtown 55, Westport PAL 39 – Josh Engler canned 16 points and was 5-of-7 from the foul line as Newtown overcame Westport in the opening round of the FCBL Playoffs. Robbie Carroll had six points and Lewis Thompson canned two jumpers off the bench. Datin had nine points and dominated in the paint while Ishan Tatake added eight points and dished out six assists.

Newtown 68, Bethel 45 – In the regular season finale, Jack Kneisel popped in a trio of three-point buckets, finished with 11 points on the night, and led Newtown to an easy win over Bethel. Grant Braun had nine points and played well in the low post, grabbing rebounds and giving the opponents fits on defense. Sean Maher had nine points and ran the floor well as Robert Frangione had seven points and distributed the ball expertly from the point.

Newtown 42, Weston 37 – The Hawks came off the winter break with a solid win at Weston. Josh Engler had 14 points and played brilliantly on both ends of the court, contributing nine rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots. Matt Datin had nine points to go with eight rebounds and three blocks. Kyle Vignone had six points and played tenacious defense as Max Nacewicz came off the bench with Tom Coscia to contribute to the win.

Girls 6th

Norwalk 38, Newtown 32 – Despite a valiant comeback in the fourth quarter, the Newtown girls fell to a strong Norwalk team in the quarterfinals of the FCBL tournament, falling short in their effort to defend their 2005 FCBL crown. Riley Wurtz and Jessica Lynch led Newtown with eight points apiece while Alyssa Finkenstadt and Jessica Jowdy added six and Arianna Papaj and Kendall Svanda added a bucket each. These girls – along with Abbey Doski, Nora Murphy, Meghan Condon and Molly Mahony – helped the locals finish 20-6 overall. Over the last two seasons, the girls have posted a 38-10 mark.

Boys 5th

Newtown 43, Westport 34 – In the first round of the FCBL Tournament, Sean Elliott canned seven points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Newtown to the win. Gavin Scallon (9 points, 4 rebounds), Dan Hebert (8 points, 3 steals, 2 assists) and Pieter Martino (6 points, 5 rebounds) had great floor games on offense while Reid Schmidt (6 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists, 3 points) played a great defensive game, shutting down Westport’s top scorer. Guard Jake Feinstein played a strong game, contributing a key bucket and playing tough defense and Wyatt DePuy was tough at power forward, muscling the Westport big men away from the hoop.

Brookfield 30, Newtown 23 – With their shooting touch deserting them in the second half, Newtown fell in the FCBL quarterfinals to Brookfield. The locals finished 13-9, going 10-3 over the second half of the season. In the loss, Sean Elliott dropped in six points and grabbed six rebounds while Nick Gerbo (5 points, 3 rebounds) and Conner Quinn (4 points, 4 rebounds) tried to keep the game close in the second half. David Gerics (3 steals, 3 rebounds, assist) played his heart out on defense, fouling out while defending one of Brookfield’s top scorers. Sam Ashey came up big at center, hauling down key rebounds and swatting several ill-advised Brookfield shots.

IN-HOUSE

Junior Boys

Hawkeyes 48, Eagles 23 – Alex Miller scored 16 points and the Hawkeyes defeated the Eagles. Michael Tenney and Zack Dent played well. For the Eagles, Michael Herring and Max Paynter combined for 15 points and 10 rebounds while Cody Fisher had five boards and Michael George played well on D.

Deamon Deakins 51, Celtics 49 – Nick Tarantino poured in 17 points and Tory Deakin added 10 to lead the Deamon Deakins to the win. Sean Devaney grabbed 11 rebounds while Austin Jones (6 assists) and Brian Grimes (5 steals) played well. For the Celtics, Dan Greenwood scored 17 points, Ryan Pasko added 10 and Bryan Czel contributed six. Kyle Moore played well.

Bullets 49, Knicks 37 – Xhulio Halili scored 12 points to lead the Bullets past the Knicks. Matt Baier, Travis LeBlanc and Ryan Korth all had strong floor games. For the Knicks, Brendan Blawie popped in 10 points and Kenny Gottschalk added seven.

Wildcats 45, Orangemen 38 – Rockwell Anyoha scored 17 points and John Fracker grabbed 13 rebounds (to go along with four steals) as the Wildcats overcame the Orangemen. Brad Biscoe dished off 10 assists while Brian Reed and Danny Clement played well. For the Orange, Jeff Spencer and Jeff Brown tossed in nine points apiece and Evan Triantafilidis dished off nine assists.

Red Devils 46, Jaspers 24 – Jeff DiNicola poured in 22 points and Oliver Paynter added 12 to power the Red Devils. Joe Fedak ripped down 11 rebounds while Eric McCabe had a strong floor game. For the Jaspers, Adam Buccino and Alex Martens played well.

Junior Girls

Huskies 40, Bulls 30 – Lisa Vendel canned 16 points and Sara Pettinelli added eight to lead the Huskies past the Bulls. Stephanie Suhoza, Scarlett O’Sullivan and Breanne Lubinsky played well. For the Bulls, Carolyn Fagan scored 16 points as Jenna Bonaccorso, Kaley Krueger and Becky Lipnick played well.

Pacers 20, Celtics 13 – Brittany Wiberg popped in eight points to help lead the Pacers to the win. Emily Rowe, Maggie Korth and Cody Jackman all played well. For the Celtics, Nicole Escoda, Samantha Lockhart and Hannah Basch-Gould tossed in four points apiece.

Kids On The Court 36, Knicks 34 (OT) – Ali Pliszka scored 15 points and hit two free throws in overtime to lead the Kids On The Court to the win. Emma Kingsley scored nine points and dished off four assists while Sarah Ferris played well on defense. For the Knicks, Deanna Tassinari poured in 16 points and Kristen Tassinari added 10 more. Rebecca Castegner and Brady Eggleston had strong floor games.

Intermediate Girls

Huskies 24, Gaels 17 – Lindsey Jossick poured in 18 points and Ali Kennedy grabbed eight rebounds to go with her four points and the Huskies defeated the Gaels. Morgan Cutolo dished off five assists and Lia Tassinari played well on D. For the Gaels, Julie LaPerch scored five points while Elizabeth Eiseman made five steals and Caitlin Gibney grabbed five rebounds. Lauren Meyer and Courtney Tenney had four points apiece.

Suns 33, Liberty 20 – Stefanie Clavette scored 14 points and Jessica Haitz added nine to lead the Suns to the win. Sarah Stofko, Kelly O’Sullivan and Courtney Campbell played well on D as Kyra Middeleer and Jackie Kissack had sparkling all-around games. For the Liberty, Katie Fossum popped in five points as Sarah Rose Hasselberger (4 assists), Sam Principi (3 steals) and Jade Mather (5 rebounds) played well. Shradha Sahini and Kiersten Lynch had four points apiece.

Da Bears 31, Huskies 23 – Kristy Papaj scored 11 points and Kaitlyn Vos Winkel added eight as Da Bears defeated the Huskies. Amanda Stanton, Shannon O’Gorman and Suzanne Wright (8 rebounds) played well. For the Huskies, Lexi Black had 15 points and nine blocks to lead the way. Lia Tassinari made six steals as Lindsay Jossick and Stephanie Zamary dished off three assists each.

Orange Crush 34, Knicks 23 – Maddie Keane poured in 24 points as the Orange Crush held off the Knicks. Ashley Cirone added eight points as Caroline Kingsley dished off five assists. Katherine Lotrecchiano made five steals. For the Knicks, Kelly Gaston canned 18 points while Kristen DeGirolamo and Emily Nacewicz had strong floor games. Georgia Contois played well.

Blue Angels 20, Regulators 19 – Nicole Davis scored seven points to lead the Angels past the Regulators, Taylor Brady (5 assists), Christina Caporale (3 steals) and Linda He (4 rebounds) played well. For the Regulators, Emma Herring and Stephanie Perrotti dropped in four points apiece as Maggie Kennedy dished off five assists. Alison Kron recorded three steals.

Bantam Girls

Liberty 19, Mighty Chicks 10 – Kerry Scallon scored 11 points and sparked the defense while leading the Liberty past the Mighty Chicks. Allie Brazo played well. For the Chicks, Emily Grimes and Jessica Principi dropped in four points apiece. Ryanne Duffy and Carly Sullivan had strong floor games.

Huskies 20, Mighty Chicks 18 – Siena C. scored 10 points and Jenny Indelicato played well to lead the Huskies to the win. For the Chicks, Emily Grimes scored six points as Claire Alexander, Jessica Principi and Mary Joe Rossi played well.

Wildcats 20, Lady Vols 12 – Cassie Ekstrom scored 12 points and Maddie Fletcher came up with two steals to lead the Wildcats past the Vols. Anna Northrop was strong off the glass and Kate Butera played well on offense. For the Vols, Megan Foy and Daisy Young had solid efforts while Carly canned six points.

Midget Girls

Hyper Hippos versus Orange Tigers – Megan Meyer, Amelia Miratori, Shelbie Tolla and Clare Boyle led the Hippos while Brittney Antous, Carly Cohane, Samantha Kruzshak and Hannah Bartlett powered the Tigers.

Blasting Blueberries versus Yellowjackets – Brooke Hadgraft, Rachel Williams, Sarah Spillone and Taylor Lafave had good floor games for the Blueberries as the ‘Jackets were led by Jenna Hansen, Michaela Jackman, Tanya Tucker and Meagan Powers.

Red Tigers versus Shooting Stars – Caitlin Linden, Laura Sullivan and Rachel Buzzi played well for the Tigers while Sarah Lynch, Maddie Bridges, Joanna Padula and Samantha Lillis powered the Stars.

Hyper Hippos versus Shooting Stars – Maren Brady, Molly Begg, Madison Prione and Michaela Nowacki had strong performances for the Hippos while Samantha Lillis, Cassie Fisher, Madeleine Strokis and Hannah Hripak played well for the Stars.

Blasting Blueberries versus Red Tigers – Brooke Hadgraft, Aimee Alexander, Juliana Patelli and Julia Wiberg had good floor games for the ‘Berries as the Tigers received solid performances from Kathryn Kerins, Caitlyn Linden, Kelly Merck and Kelsey Muniz.

Yellowjackets versus Orange Tigers – Jenna Hansen, Celia Gold, Megan Powers and Kayla Disibio played well for the ‘Jackets as Ashley Marks, Samantha Kruzshak, Sara Bender and Brittney Antous led the Tigers.

Midget Boys

Blue Dragons versus Red Devils – Logan Walsh, Gordon Walsh, Connor Flint and Eric Cascone powered the Dragons while Jack Beal, Jared Brady, Kyle Keeping and Kyle Troy led the Devils.

Tigers versus Bulldogs – Matthew Maturo, Michael Cirone and Colin Morrissey played well for the Tigers as the ‘Dogs got solid performances from Josh Houle, Dan Colucci, Wiley Zahansky and Baxter Hankin.

Destroyers versus Lightning Bolts – Spencer Johnson, Devin Peterson, James Barry and Forrest Speed powered the Destroyers while Devin Luzietti, Matthew Gerics, Jacob Hill and Andrew DeWolfe had electric performances for the Lightning Bolts.

Knights versus Tigers – Adam Israel, Jaret DeVellis, David Kent and Nick Rubino played well for the Knights while Michael Cirone, Matthew Maturo and Colin Morrissey powered the Tigers.

Purple Tigers versus Blue Dragons – Joseph Stromsky, Anthony Vournazos, Geoff Santore and Billy Cosgrove had solid performances for the Tigers as the Dragons were led by Robby Schreiber, Daryl Silverlieb, Sam Czel and Zane Lynch.

Dragons versus Blue Jays – Nick Roche and Graham Hubbard played well for the Dragons while Nicholas Genovese, Connor Roche, Zachary Weiland and Nicholas Rohrbacher played well for the Jays.

Destroyers versus Great White Sharks – Jack Condon, Trevor Lopez, Keaton McCleary and Devin Peterson had strong floor games for the Destroyers while Robbie McCabe, Dave Corsi, Jeremy Doski and Shawn McCarthy powered the Sharks.

Purple Tigers versus Blue Jays – Thomas Gavel, Geoff Santore, Jackson Cryder and Peter Winans played well for the Tigers while Connor Roche, Matt Elias, Brenna O’Sullivan and Joey Carino played well for the Jays.

Heat versus Grey Eagles – Bryan Kiley, Nick Samuelson, Colin Reilly and Eric Street had fine floor games for the Heat as Dillon Palumbo, Harry Depuy, Constat Gregoire and Lukas Palumbo played well for the Eagles.

Dragons versus Heat – Will Swain and Sean McCafferty played well for the Dragons while the Heat got solid performances from David Anderson, Nathan Augenbraun, Nick Lotrecchiano and Christian Morlock.

Grey Eagles versus Razors – Sawyer Conrad, Bobby Archieri, Kaj Djonne and Kevin Chernoff played well for the Eagles while Michael O’Keefe, Holden Turk, Danny McCarthy and Joey Duero had strong performances for the Razors.

Wild Armadillos versus Hawks – Brandon Johnson, Albert Dean, Stephen Faxlanger and Alex Gerbo powered the Armadillos as Nick Rosario, David Bauch and Jake Lapp played well for the Hawks.
