Nighthawk Hockey Team Splits 3-2 Nail-Biters With Masuk And Immaculate

The Newtown-New Fairfield high school hockey team edged Masuk of Monroe 3-2 on March 6, then fell 3-2 to Immaculate of Danbury on March 8 — both at Danbury Ice Arena.

In the win over Masuk, Gio Cucco and Cam Gouveia each netted their first career high school goals, and Tyler DiMartino scored his first of the season. Phil Makris had two assists, and Jack Benzing and Eli Kirby also had helpers. Goaltender Markus Paltauf made 20 saves.

Immaculate is a Division I South-West/ Southern Connecticut Conference team and D-III Newtown-New Fairfield kept it close despite being outshot 31-11. Makris scored an unassisted goal, and James Celentano was assisted by Kirby.

Up next is a Saturday, March 13, date with the Housatonic co-op team, at Danbury Ice Arena; faceoff is at 5:15 pm. The Nighthawks close out the regular slate in a rematch with Masuk, Thursday, March 18, at The Rinks At Shelton, starting at 3:45 pm.
