Kosher Wine For Passover
Kosher Wine
For Passover
TRUMBULL â Michael Pirro of New England Wine and Spirits, Inc., will speak at Congregation Bânai Torahâs public kosher wine tasting on Saturday, March 24, at 8:30 pm at Bottom Line Wine and Spirits, located in Trumbull Plaza.
While wine is often miss-construed as being related to the blessing of a rabbi and past experience may dictate that kosher wines must be sweet and sticky in order to be kosher, this is not at all the case. Todayâs kosher wine is more robust and flavorful than ever. The only requirements for a wine to be kosher are that observant Jews use strictly kosher products and equipment.
Many kosher wines undergo an added process in which they are heated to a high temperature. These wines, called mevushal, suffer as a result, since heat is wineâs worst enemy. However, recent technological advancements have significantly reduced the effect heat has on the wine. In fact, some kosher wine producers claim that flash pasteurization, in which the wine is very briefly heated, then quickly returned to a cool temperature, may actually enhance a wineâs aromatic properties.Â
