Dorothy Mackey, age 92, of Monroe, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest on March 12, 2023.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edward John Mackey. Dorothy was born on May 12, 1930, in Bridgeport, Conn., to the late August Hein and Amelia (Artman)(Hein) Knecht.

She was born and raised in the “Whiskey Hill” section of Bridgeport. She worked as a child at her dad’s convenience/liquor store on Trumbull Avenue in Bridgeport. This is where she met her husband, Ed Mackey. They married and moved to Monroe, Conn., where she and Ed built their home, which she remained in for 63 years.

Dot was a homemaker raising six children. Her children Joyce (Bill) Gabianelli, Sonny (Corki), Richard, Donna, and Peggy (Bill) Uhde survive her. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Melody. Dot is predeceased by her son, William Joseph Mackey.

Dot welcomed anyone who visited to a meal; she became a second mom to many. You never left hungry and she was famous for her barbecue chicken, potato salad, the best coleslaw, which no one else has been able to master like she had, and powdered rosettes (host chickees). Her love for country music was evident; it played in her house every day of the past couple decades.

Dot worked in retail for many years and in her later years she was a successful real estate agent. Dot and Ed ventured down to Florida in the 70s and eventually became snowbirds, building their second home in Florida, which they enjoyed immensely, and entertained family and friends since. Dot was also a Charter Member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Monroe, Conn.

She cherished all of the time she spent with grandchildren: Jimmy, Billy, Melissa, Cara, Garrett, Rob, Jenny, and Kristina, and great-granddaughter Mikayla. She leaves behind her sister, Edna Knecht, and her brother, Robert Hein. She lived for her family and grandchildren. To know her was to love her, and she will be forever missed.

A visitation for Dorothy will be held Thursday, March 16, 2023, from 3 to 6 pm, with prayer starting at 5:30 pm at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, Conn. A funeral service will take place Friday, March 17, 2023, at 10 am, at the funeral home. Interment to immediately follow at St Rose Cemetery, 20 Cherry Street, Sandy Hook, CT 06482.
