Castle Hill Crash

Police report a two-vehicle collision on Castle Hill Road during snowy conditions about 12:07 pm March 2.

Motorist Gary Skalandunas, 40, of 6 Lincoln Road was driving a 1996 Subaru Legacy eastward, as motorist Justin Durelli, 17, of 22 Cannon Drive was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer westward, police report.

While negotiating a curve on the snow-covered road, the Subaru slid into the opposite travel lane, resulting in a collision with the Chevrolet, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Skalandunas a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Honda Vs Deer

While driving westward on Route 302 about 6:46 pm March 6, motorist Doug Quine, 55, of Bethel, who was driving a 2005 Honda Civic, collided with a deer, which then ran from the scene, police said. Quine was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Violation of Probation

Newtown police said New Haven police alerted them about 4:35 am March 11 that they were holding Robert Bergeron, 18, of New Haven, who was wanted by Newtown police on two arrest warrants.

Newtown police retrieved Bergeron from New Haven and arrested him on two counts of violation of probation stemming from two separate cases, one from 2004 and one from 2005.

Newtown police held Bergeron on $10,000 bail for a March 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Drug Charges

Police said they observed motorist Shaun McLean, 26, of 55 Sugar Street, Unit 1, driving a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on South Main Street without its headlamps illuminated about 7:19 pm March 11.

Police pulled over McLean at Sand Hill Plaza to investigate. Police then called in their dog to search for drugs.

The dog’s search turned up some syringes and a small amount of heroin in a syringe, police said. Police charged McLean with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, and with failure to illuminate headlamps.

Police released McLean on $200 bail for a March 28 court appearance.

DUI Charge

Police report they saw motorist Elizabeth Klein, 55, of Monroe crossing the center lines of southbound Route 25 multiple times about 2:20 pm March 10, so they stopped her to investigate.

After giving her field sobriety tests, police charged Klein with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.

After processing, police released Klein on $100 bail for a March 24 court appearance.

Orchard Hill

Police said they investigated a trespassing case at Orchard Hill Nature Center off Orchard Hill Road about 9 pm March 10.

Police said they found seven youths to be trespassing in the park. Police said that they warned six of those youths for trespassing and then turned them over to their parents. Police declined to identify the six youths who they warned.

Police said they charged a seventh youth, Vincent Guilfoil, 18, of 8 Glover Avenue, with simple trespassing and with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Police said they had found a small amount of marijuana in Guilfoil’s possession.

Police released Guilfoil on a written promise to appear March 24 in Danbury Superior Court.

Bancroft Road

A passerby spotted two boys and one girl throwing large sticks and tree branches onto the road and at passing vehicles at the intersection of Bancroft Road and Pole Bridge Road about 5 pm March 10, police report.

Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841, or at 270-8888.

Car Vas Truck

Trucker Robert Shaw, 39, of 34 Great Ring Road, who was driving a 1998 Mitsubishi commercial truck, was stopped on westbound Wasserman Way in the left-turn-only lane for the on-ramp at Exit 11 of Interstate 84 about 11 am March 10, police said.

Motorist Luciana Falci, 31, of Danbury, who was driving a 1996 Subaru Legacy station wagon, was stopped behind the truck, police said.

Falci’s foot slipped off the brake pedal and the Subaru struck the rear end of the truck, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Falci a written warning for following too closely.

Saw Mill Road

Police are investigating a two-vehicle accident that occurred on a narrow bridge on Saw Mill Road on February 26.

Police said motorist Michael Trosan, 50, of 46 Birch Hill Road was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Venture. While crossing the narrow bridge, the Chevrolet came into contact with a green minivan which then drove away, police said.

The two vehicles’ left exterior rear-view mirrors made contact. The Chevrolet carried four passengers. There were no injuries. Police ask anyone with information on the accident to contact them.

South Main Street

Police report that motorist Jacqueline Ratzing, 18, of 13 Joan Drive, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Impreza southward on South Main Street about 11:30 am March 10, was stopped and was  waiting to turn left onto Simm Lane, when a southbound tractor-trailer truck driven by Matthew Golden, 33, of Milford, attempted to pass the Subaru on the right.

The truck hit the Subaru’s right exterior rear-view mirror, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Golden for passing on the right.

Drug Possession

At about 10:30 am March 13, a school administrator at Newtown Middle School at 11 Queen Street found a 14-year-old male student there in possession of a small plastic bag containing marijuana, police said.

The youth received a juvenile summons on a charge of possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, police report. The youth is scheduled to appear March 27 in Danbury Juvenile Court. State law shields the identities of those under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Rear-Ender

While traveling on Interstate 84 in heavy traffic at about 3:15 pm March 10, motorist Carolyn Nuzzi, 58, of Brookfield, who was driving a Toyota Highlander, slowed due the traffic congestion, state police said.

The Toyota was then struck from behind by motorist Richard Conrod, 48, of 64 Mountain View Drive, who was driving a Dodge pickup truck, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Conrod failed to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Three Charged

Police report they arrested three male Newtown High School students under age 16 on the morning of March 15, charging each of the three with third-degree assault for their alleged involvement in a fight at the high school at about 8 am.

Police said the three boys assaulted a fourth boy who received minor injuries in the incident.

Because the three boys are under age 16, they are considered juveniles, and their identities are concealed by police. Each of the three are scheduled to appear April 3 in Danbury Juvenile Court.

South Main Collision

While traveling southward on South Main Street about 4:50 pm March 15, motorist Melissa Olmstead, 27, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Maxima, stopped abruptly, resulting in southbound motorist Anthony Grave, 24, of Monroe, who was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck, striking the rear end of the Nissan, police report.

Olmstead received a sore neck in the accident, but refused medical attention, police said.

Police charged Grave with following too closely, driving while under suspension, and driving without automotive insurance. Grave was released on a promise to appear in court March 31.
