Dorothy S. Currier, 86, a longtime resident of Fairfield, died on March 14 at her home with her family around her.
She is survived by her children, Timothy Mather Currier and Nicholas Noyes Currier of Newtown, James Douglas Currier and Robert Wickes Currier of Newport, R.I., Dorothy Currier Payne of Fairfield, Mary Currier DeMoss of Lexington, Ky., and Brienne Currier Superczynski of Thurmont, Md. She is also survived by her brother H. Noyes Spelman of Fairfield and her sister Mary Vincent of Punta Gorda, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Katherine Landis; her brother, James B. Spelman; and her sister, Carolyn S. Proctor.
Mrs Currier graduated from Unquowa School in Fairfield, Madeira School in McLean, Va., and Erskine College in Boston. Throughout her life she was very active in community volunteer work, primarily with Operation Hope, St Johnâs Day Care, Fairfield Rehabilitation Center, The American Red Cross, Grasmere Eldercare Center, Meals On Wheels, and Parish Court where she served on the board.
Sailing and boating with her family was lifelong enjoyment for her and her husband. They were former members of Pequot Yacht Club and Saugatuck River Power Squadron. She was also an active and lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Southport, at 11 am on Saturday, March 18.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Fairfield Country Day School, 2970 Bronson Road, Fairfield CT 06824, or to Meals on Wheels, 475 Clinton Avenue, Bridgeport CT 06605.
The Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, is assisting the family with arrangements.
