If It’s Pitchers And Catchers, It Must Be Spring

Monday was the official opening of the 2006 spring sports season as baseball pitchers and catchers reported to their first practice (Ryan McGrath tries a sidearm delivery inside the Newtown High School gym while Alex Dolan, inset, fields a ground ball). All other teams – softball, girls’ lacrosse, boys’ lacrosse, boys’ track, girls’ track, boys’ tennis, girls’ tennis and golf – will open on Monday, March 20. All times and locations will be announced in school and on www.nighthawksports.com. All student athletes must be academically eligible to tryout and each student athlete will be required to turn in the following items in order to participate at tryouts – Pay to participate fee; parent permission form signed by parent and student; copy of the student athlete’s current physical. The parent permission and physical forms can be found in the Newtown High School main office, at the nurse’s office, or at www.nighthawksports.com. These items will be collected by each coach prior to tryouts.
