Is Weight Loss Surgery

For You?

DANBURY — The physicians and staff of Danbury Hospital’s Center for Weight Loss Surgery are planning two free educational sessions entitled “Is Weight Loss Surgery Right for You?”

Those attending will learn about the benefits of weight loss surgery, including the reduction in many obesity-related health conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, diabetes, and infertility. Case studies and a question and answer period will be offered along with literature that describes weight loss surgery and Danbury Hospital’s program in detail.

“Weight loss surgery should not be considered cosmetic surgery,” said Laura Choi, MD, medical director of Danbury Hospital’s Center for Weight Loss Surgery. “It is an aggressive intervention that can bring about dramatic health improvements. For most of those who are morbidly obese, 100 pounds or more overweight, surgery is often the only effective therapy to address the excess weight and its related complications.”

The free educational sessions will be held from 7 to 9 pm, Thursday, March 23, at Danbury Hospital Auditorium, and Thursday, April 6, at the Marriott Courtyard, Fishkill, N.Y

Danbury Hospital’s Center for Weight Loss Surgery recently earned national recognition as a Center of Excellence from the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. Weight loss surgery at the center has proven effective for more than 500 people in the greater Danbury area.
