Parent Connection’s Final Forum

Of The School Year

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Board of The Newtown Parent Connection, I would like to thank all who attended our Forum on Tuesday, March 14, at The Reed School, titled “It’s The Internet…Do You Know Where Your Children Are?”

I believe it’s safe to say that it was a truly enlightening experience for those in attendance. A very special thank you to Parry Aftab, executive director of WiredSafety.org, the largest online safety and educational program in cyberspace, dedicated to the prevention and investigation of cybercrime. A security, privacy, and cyberspace lawyer, she is a worldwide leader in the area of online safety and parent and child Internet education. With her high profile and the enormous demands on her time, we were both fortunate and grateful that she made herself available to us for this very timely forum. We hope this program provided valuable insight and useful information in matters surrounding this urgent issue, as we continue our quest to provide a safe and secure environment for all the children of Newtown.

This was our last forum for the school year 2005-2006. At this time we would again like to thank all in the community who have supported us throughout this year in ways too numerous to count. A very special thank you to Kathy Dahlmeyer and The Drug Center for providing the free and informative materials available to all at each forum; and to David King and his technical crew from Charter Communications for taping each session so that these forums can be aired for viewing on Community Vision 21 at future dates. Please check the NPC website for the viewing dates and times of Tuesday’s forum.

Please watch for future updates concerning our opening event for September, scheduled to be a “Free” Family Dinner Night, date still to be determined. Lastly, we hope you will all attend our upcoming fundraiser, The Rooster Review Cocktail Party and Live Auction on Saturday, April 29, from 7:30 to 11 pm, at The Rock Ridge Country Club. As some may have already viewed first hand, or seen in recent issues of The Bee, the 25 artfully decorated Roosters are presently roosting at various establishments around town, while awaiting adoption by a loving Newtown family. Watch for further information and updates on this event, mark your calendars, and don’t delay in purchasing your tickets, as seating is limited. This evening is sure to put the “fun” in fundraiser!!

Remember to keep connected with The Parent Connection at www.newtownparentsconnection.org.
