Super Science Summer Enrichment Program Offers Hands-On Activities
Super Science is a two-week summer enrichment program for children entering grades one through seven. The program is designed to provide an engaging atmosphere in both science and math. The courses allow students an opportunity to explore the wonders of both science and math through creative hands on activities.
The program helps to build higher order thinking skills along with creating a challenging environment in which the participants can enhance their knowledge. All classes are taught by certified teachers who are dedicated to forming young scientific minds for the future.
The summer program began three years ago by Newtown resident Laurena McCarthy and co-founder Barbra Stuart, who believe that children can never get enough science.
Ms McCarthyâs son Brandon participated in last years summer program. He stated, âSuper Science is a fun program where you learn about science and have a great time. You can make bottle rockets and other cool inventions. I had so much fun building robotic Legos in the robotics class and programming them to do whatever I commanded using the computer.â
Brandon commented that he built a catapult out of wood and also made a hovercraft, which floated over the ground like a puck does on an air hockey table. This year he wants to take a course in forensics or chemistry.
