LEXINGTON, Kentucky – If you are planning on taking an early spring vacation, why not visit the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky? Horses & Hollywood, a new exhibit exploring the art and memorabilia of the horse in Hollywood history, will be unveiled starting on May 26 and running through September 16.

Gathered from museums across the country will be photos, movie posters, saddles and other movie memorabilia. The saddle used by Robert Redford in The Horse Whisperer will be on display, along with a Bohlin-made saddle used by Roy Rogers and Trigger; a saddle used by Tom Mix and Tony the Wonder Horse; and Gene Autry’s stunt saddle.

One of the other items on display will be a bridle worn by Fritz, the horse of William S. Hart, a silent western star who was the first to place his mount in the spotlight with him.

In addition to saddles and bridles, on display will be training equipment used to train horses featuring throughout the history of the movies and television. Then there will be comic books and other merchandise featuring Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry and all their trusty steeds.

Throughout the exhibit, visitors will have the opportunity to view photographs and posters from numerous westerns and horse-related shows such as Misty, National Velvet, International Velvet, Black Beauty, Black Stallion, The Big Country, Ben-Hur, City Slickers, The Lone Ranger, and Bonanza. In a special theater within the museum, visitors will be treated to clips of both The Gene Autry Show and The Roy Rogers Show. Clips of Roy Rogers and Gene Autry movies, as well as The Great Train Robbery, the very first western, will be shown.

Beginning this month, the Kentucky Horse Park will go back to its regular schedule of being open seven days a week, from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission includes the park’s regular daily attractions, the American Saddlebred Museum, and Horses & Hollywood.
