Occupation: I am an independent market research consultant. I have been doing it on my own for two years. Previously I worked for Greenfield On Line in Westport. I earned my bachelor’s degree in communication and journalism with a minor in political science at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and my master’s in political science with specialization in survey research and public opinion at the University of Connecticut.

How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown for about three years. I’ve lived in a number of places, the most recent in Fairfield. Before that I lived in Storrs. I grew up in Easton.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: I’ve seen a great deal of development in the last three years. There are many new houses. There’s tremendous growth going on in the town.

Family: My wife, Jila, and I have been married for six years. We have one child, Ethan, who is 2.

Hobbies: I don’t have much time for hobbies. I try to keep fit. I do weight lifting and stairmaster activity. I also do landscaping and work on our house.

Favorite Books and Authors: I like to read. I read a lot of politically oriented magazines. I mostly like to read non-fiction. I’ve also started to read some of the classics. I’m currently reading Moby Dick.

Favorite TV Show: West Wing for a new show, and MASH and Star Trek for old shows.

Organizations: I belong to the Newtown Property Owners Association and the Connecticut Green Party. I’m looking forward to being more involved in town and serving on boards and commissions.

Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: We’ve had some interesting encounters with wildlife. The week before Thanksgiving, there was a very large wild turkey sitting on the railing of the deck and looking in the window. He wasn’t interested in the bread I threw out for him; he tried to come in the house. Then he flew up on the roof. Another time, we were sleeping one night, and heard a crash. The next day my wife almost tripped over the body of a pretty large deer that had apparently fallen off the hill behind us and hit the back of our house.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Vermont. We went there for a week and went hiking and kayaking. We stayed in a very nice inn. Mostly, our vacations are spent visiting relatives.

Personal Philosophy: I think I try to have a respect for people no matter what their station in life, occupation, or educational background. I think it’s important for people to develop their abilities and capacities as human beings. I think we should provide a society where people are able to develop the capabilities they have in them.
