What have you learned about child safety seats that was surprising to you? (The New Moms Support Group at Newtown Youth Services received information about child safety seats and an inspection of their child’s seat by Sgt George Sinko from the Newtown Police Department)

Jeanmarie Roche-Hoover: “Never assume you’ve installed the child safety seat correctly. Always have it checked.”

Rhonda Sandison: “They are a lot more difficult to put in than you think. There is a lot more to it.”

Therese Lestik: “The straps need to be at the top level when your seat is forward facing.”

Sgt. George Sinko: “Booster seats. I didn’t realize how important they are until after my training. Seat belts are not designed for kids. They are made for adults.”

Sandra Bent: “Children need to be in a booster seat until they are eight to ten years old. I had no idea.”

Addie Sandler: “I didn’t know about the locking clip, which locks the seat belt at a specific length so the safety seat is anchored to the seat of the car.”
