BROOKFIELD — The Brookfield Craft Center will present its sixth annual Juried Student Exhibition, “Artists on the Rise,” showcasing artwork by students from local high schools, March 20 and through April 18.

More than 75 students from ten area towns will display their work in a wide range of media including ceramics, painting, photography, and more.

The following Newtown students have all had work accepted into the exhibition: Ellie Arcario, Eva Barricelli, Kimora Campbell, Nancy Chung, Cate Dalton, Bryana Diaz, and Annie Fowler.

Also, Michaela Intemann, Katherine Kordik, Allie Kost, Ellia Mason, Puma Marx, Katie Stan, and Addie Sullivan.

This year, to comply with health and safety protocols, the show will be both in the gallery and online. This is a juried event and awards will be given across media and for Best In Show.

Artists were invited to participate by their schools, but specific art classes and programs were not required for consideration.

Jurors for 2021 were Shannon Riley, Lisa Scroggins, and Melissa Ralston-Jones. The noted community members, artists, and educators evaluated all of the submissions received and determined finalists for awards.

Brookfield Craft Center Executive Director Howard Lasser said the center is excited to host the annual exhibition.

“An important part of our mission is to engage more of our local community, and our youth programs are an essential piece of our future,” he said. “We are honored to recognize these young artists and are excited about the response from our schools and amazed by the quality of the work submitted.

“I hope everyone comes out to see what our local students are creating,” Lasser added.

The 2021 edition of Artists on the Rise will be presented in Brookfield Craft Center’s Lynn Tendler Bignell Gallery, located at 286 Whisconier Road (Route 35).

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 pm; Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, noon to 4 pm. COVID protocols remain in place, including wearing masks and observing physical distancing.

Visit the center’s website for the latest updates.

The exhibition will also be available to view online at brookfieldcraft.org.
