In Week #14 of Newtown Health & Fitness Club’s Women’s Basketball League, Kerler Burton’s Sherri Baggett scored a season-high 24 points against Newtown Amoco – but it wasn’t enough to thwart another win by Amoco, which went on to a 72-52 victory.

Nancy Bowen scored 16 for Kerler Burton and Amy Mangola added 12. Denise Brough and Carolyn Schreiber led Amoco with 24 points each with Schrieber also grabbing eight rebounds. Ellen Goyda tossed in 16 and Terry Schmeidel added eight points.

Walsh Logging was losing at half-time by three points, but managed to surge ahead in the fourth quarter to secure a 57-46 win over Pizza Palace and remain undefeated. Lisa Goeddel led Walsh with 26. Carol Huizinga added 16, Megan LaCava 11 and Doris Ratner four. Karen Powell sunk 24 for Pizza Palace followed by Mary Dent with 10 and Sue Vargo, Jackie Peterson, and Beth Gattey each adding four points.

Charter Communications had an easy time with Newtown Color Center, beating them 65-35. Colleen Gregory led Charter with 26 points. Laura Denis had 17, Holly Ferguson 16, and Laura Willing six. Sharon McCarthy pulled down 10 rebounds and scored 10 points for NCC with Melanie Townsend leading the point total with 15. Lisa Pollard tossed in six with Joan Plavnicky and Sharon Palmer adding two apiece.

In Week #15, fifth-place Newtown Color Center led from start to finish on its way to a surprising 47-34 win over third-place Pizza Palace. Melanie Townsend led the upset with 16 points, aided by Lisa Pollard with nine, Sharon McCarthy and Joan Plavnicky with eight each, and Sharon Palmer with six. Karen Powell scored 13 points for Pizza Palace. Beth Gattey added 10, Jackie Peterson nine and Sue Vargo two.

Charter Communications held on to their second-place standing with a 66-39 win over Newtown Amoco. Colleen Gregory scored a season-high 31 points to lead the way, while Holly Ferguson added 21 and Laura Denis added 14. Justine Kohlsaat led Amoco with 12 points while Leslie Trudell added nine, Ellen Goyda eight, Terry Schmeidel six and Carolyn Schreiber four.

Walsh Logging now remains undefeated after 15 games with its 56-28 defeat of Kerler Burton. Tracey Palella led Walsh with 29 points followed by Lisa Goeddel with 17, and Carol Huizinga with 10. Michelle Putnickey scored 14 points for Kerler Burton, while Nancy Bowen and Bonnie Willie tossed in six points apiece. Amy Mangold chipped in with 2.
