Rotary Honors Middle School Students

Newtown Rotary honored three Newtown Middle School students for their outstanding example and their contributions to community service in Newtown. Tony Salvatore, assistant principal at the middle school, introduced the students and Newtown Rotary President Scott Senete gave certificates of appreciation to sixth grader Jennifer Iassogna, seventh grader Joshua Tennenbaum, and eighth grader Christina Wolf.

Jennifer is a true leader and an exceptional student. She has been an altar server at St Rose for three years, volunteer at Ashlar for 3½ years, co-president of the Head O’ Meadow School Community Team, and a member of the Discovery Program in the middle school. She has also played the cello since the fourth grade, finds time to play three sports, and headed the decoration committee for a townwide blood drive held recently at the middle school.

Joshua is an active member of the Student Council, a manager of the middle school JV basketball team, and as a budding politician is referred to as “The Mayor of Cluster 7B.” Josh loves sports, comedy, and collecting model sports cars. As an active member of his synagogue, he is now preparing for his bar mitzvah.

Christina is one who always steps in when things have to be done, whether it is folding pizza boxes during the cluster pizza parties or taking daily attendance in homeroom. She recently joined the SPOKES Club (a Rotary sponsored service club for middle school students). Considered a “people” person, she is always smiling – a very “up” person who interacts well with both adults and students. Her exciting adventure this year was going to Yankee spring training in Tampa and getting Joe Torre’s autograph.

Newtown Rotary honors these students to bring to the attention of the public the good work and example these students are setting in their school.
