Information on the following scholarships has arrived in the Career Center at Newtown High School. Applications and/or more information are available there. Please call Mrs McEvoy at 426-1915 if you have any questions.
Connecticut Sports Writers Alliance â for high school seniors planning to major in Print (Sports) Journalism at a four year college or university. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000. Applications and all supporting documents are due by April 8, 2001. The scholarship winner will be introduced at the Connecticut Sports Writersâ Alliance 60th Gold Key Dinner.
Newtown Youth Services â for a graduating senior living in Newtown who has given something back to the community through volunteer work and community service. Application must be returned to Newtown Youth Services by 5 pm on April 26, 2001.
Ted Martocchio Scholarship (Building and Trades Union) â the deadline for this scholarship has been extended to April 30 at 4 pm. This scholarship is for high school seniors who have been accepted to one of the Connecticut State Universities. To be eligible, student must have a minimum 2.75 GPA; leadership or examples of volunteer work; resident of Connecticut and accepted to a Connecticut State University; as well as be a child of a Building and Trades Union member. No specific major is required. Financial need must be demonstrated. Deadline is as stated above.
Pratt and Whitney Science and Technology Scholarship â a $1,000 scholarship for a student planning on attending Southern Connecticut State University in the fall of 2001. Student must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA, demonstrated interest and/or examples of excellence in science or technology in high school, be a resident of Connecticut, and demonstrate financial need. Application deadline is April 30 by 4 pm.
T. Clark Hull Public Service Scholarship â a $500 award for a student planning on attending Western Connecticut State University in the fall of 2001. Student must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA, demonstrated leadership and commitment to service in their high school and/or community, be a resident of Connecticut, and demonstrate financial need. Application must be received by 4 pm on April 30.
Horticulture Club of Newtown Scholarship â a $300 award for a Newtown High School senior who is interested in Environmental Science, Horticulture, or Ecology. Application and supporting documents must be returned to the Career Center by April 27.
Sandy Hook Elementary School PTA Scholarship â Any graduating senior who attended Sandy Hook Elementary School is eligible to apply for the scholarships offered by the PTA. This year scholarship(s) will be offered up to $1,000 and book(s) up to $500. Information is available in the high school guidance office or in the office of Sandy Hook Elementary School. The deadline for applications is April 30 at 3 pm.
