DANBURY — WCSU faculty saxophonist Dr Dan Goble will present a recital on Sunday, April 2, at 8 pm. The performance will be in Ives Concert Hall at 181 White Street on the midtown campus of Western Connecticut State University.

Featured on the program will be the East Coast premiere performance of a new work by the university’s own Kevin Isaacs, as well as new compositions by Gunther Schuller and Libby Larsen. Admission is a suggested donation of $10. Proceeds will benefit music students at WestConn.

Dr Isaacs’ new work, called “4 Wheel Dr,” is the result of a long-time collaboration between artist and composer. The work is a duo for saxophone and piano, with each of its four movements written specifically for soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone.

The program will also include “Holy Roller,” by Pulitzer Prize nominee Libby Larsen, Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano by Gunther Schuller, and “Interplay” by Charles Ruggiero.

Dr Goble will be joined on the recital by the pianist Jeff Hellmer. Mr Hellmer is no stranger to the Ives stage, having performed there in the past with the WCSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra as well as with Dr Goble on three previous occasions, including the 1997 world premier of Pulitzer Prize winner John Harbison’s “San Antonio.”
