Lunchtime Poetry Readings At WCSU’s Haas Library

DANBURY — Four published poets from the faculty and staff of Western Connecticut State University will read their work in a series of lunchtime poetry readings to be held throughout April in the CyberCafé at Ruth A. Haas Library on WCSU’s Midtown Campus. The library is at 181 White Street.

The poetry readings, which are free and open to the public, are part of Haas Library’s celebration of National Poetry Month. This is a chance for those who live and work in and around Danbury to take a different kind of lunch break.

The public is invited to bring a lunch and eat in the library’s first-floor CyberCafé while listening to a poet read selections of original work. Each reading is expected to last 30 to 45 minutes.

The first poet in the series is Peter Marcus, a counselor at WestConn whose work has been widely published in prominent poetry journals. His reading will be on Wednesday, April 4. All readings will begin at 12:30 pm.

Michael Chappell, an assistant professor of English, will read selections of his poetry at on Monday, April 9; James Scrimgeour, a professor of English and co-chair of the English Department, will read on Thursday, April 19; and John Briggs, a professor of English, co-chair of the English Department and coordinator of the journalism program, will read on Tuesday, April 24.

Neither tickets nor reservations are needed for these events. Parking is available in the Student & Visitor Lot adjacent to the library, which is at the intersection of Hospital Avenue and Osborne Street, with additional parking in the White Street Garage.
