Bocce In The Pleasance
Bocce In The Pleasance
To the Editor:
As secretary of the group Just Friends, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Scudder Smith for The Pleasance. Not only is it a great place to be, it also gives Newtowners a place to hang together to place bocce, among other things. As an ex-New Yorker, my misconception was that no one in Newtown ever heard of bocce, never mind playing it. I was totally wrong about that.
Our group started playing in the spring of 2005 and continued right through till there was frost on our noses. We played with skimpy outfits when it was over 90 degrees right through till we had earmuffs on and parkas. We just didnât want to give it up.
We intend do just that this coming season. We have scouts who âcheck outâ the terrain, we have scouts who are drumming up new members for the game, and we have scouts who stand out in The Pleasance just to check to see exactly how long one can stay out without getting frostbite. We hope to be up and running some time in April. And hope that anyone who loves bocce will join us and participate in beautiful surroundings and a great game of sport. One neednât be athletic to play: just able to stand up, take two steps and then throw the ball. Thatâs bocce!
Again, our thanks for such a great place. I would think that you are probably responsible for an increase in sales of bocce sets since many in our group have gone out to buy sets just because of The Pleasance.
