Catherine Maher of Newtown, a 2003 graduate of St. Margaret’s-McTernan in Waterbury, finished the 2005-06 season as the third leading scorer on the Trinity College women’s basketball team. Starting 22 games, the junior guard popped in 248 points (11.3 per game) while hitting nearly 41% of her shots from the floor. Cat canned a team-high 35 three-pointers on the season while dishing off 51 assists (second on the team) and recording 22 steals. The Lady Bantams finished 8-15 overall … Pat Coakley of Newtown, a 2005 graduate of the Bridgton Academy, is a freshman catcher with the Ohio-Wesleyan University baseball team. Coakley was a four-time letterwinner in high school while receiving All-League selection three times and setting school records in doubles, triples and home runs … Eric Koestner of Sandy Hook, a graduate of Immaculate High School in Danbury, helped lead the Southern Connecticut State University track and field team to a second-place finish at the New England championships in Boston recently. Koestner earned two all-New England awards, one with the distance medley relay (fourth place –10:07.88) and another for the 4x800 relay (eighth place – 7:49.26). Eric also placed second in the 800-meters and first as part of the 4x800 when Southern won the Northeast 10 Conference championship last month … The Western New England College men’s lacrosse team improved to 4-0 with an 18-7 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Orlando, Florida last Wednesday. Sophomore goaltender Chris Body, a 2004 graduate of Newtown High School, made five saves to record the win …
