Make-A-Wish Foundation Seeking Past Wish Children, Families & Volunteers

TRUMBULL — What started as a volunteer effort of a concerned few has grown into a full-blown movement touching the lives of more than 1,300 families in Connecticut over the last 20 years. As the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut prepares to celebrate 20 years of making wishes come true this fall, the chapter is seeking to find all past wish recipients and/or their families in Connecticut.

“We are tremendously thrilled that we’ve been able to help a generation of children with life-threatening medical conditions realize their fondest dream as they faced a difficult time in their lives,” said Judy Campisi, president and CEO for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut. “We’d really love to celebrate their lives and inspire a whole new generation of wish families and volunteers as we mark this important milestone.”

Anyone who was granted a wish before 2000, had an immediate family member who had a wish granted before 2000, or was an active volunteer between 1986 and 2000 is encouraged to visit Ct.Wish.org or call 203-261-9044 to update their records with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut.

In 1986 as a start-up charity run by a few dedicated volunteers, space and resources were limited, computers were nonexistent and, as a result, records were kept manually and included only minimal information. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut is interested in  finding as many past wish families and volunteers as possible so that all will have the opportunity to participate in a celebration slated for this fall.

The chapter is also working to create a more complete record of its history, illustrating the power of a wish to inspire future wish families and supporters of the organization.

The foundation grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy. Twenty years of magic and more than 1,300 wishes later, the Foundation continues its mission to share the power of a wish with special children throughout Connecticut.
