R. Scott Mahana

New Fairfield

R. Scott Mahana, 39, of New Fairfield, died March 15 at his home as a result of injuries sustained when the motor vehicle he was working on collapsed and pinned him to the ground. Mr Mahana was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., January 28, 1967, son of the late Robert C. and Gail (Becker) Mahana.

His paternal grandmother, Waleria Mahana of Newtown; a sister, Christine A. Mahana of Danbury; a brother, Brent C. Mahana of New Orleans; a nephew, Charlie Mahana; two aunts, Janet Miller and Carole Barrett; and several cousins survive him.

Mr Mahana moved to New Fairfield as an infant with his family, attended New Fairfield schools and graduated from New Fairfield High School in the Class of 1985. He then attended the University of Utah and enlisted in the US Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Scott returned to New Fairfield, where he had resided ever since.

At the time of his death, Scott was a certified hyperbaric technologist at the Westchester County Medical Center, Valhalla, N.Y.

A volunteer firefighter with the New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department, Company A, he was an EMT, paramedic, and a hazardous materials technician and attained the ranks to be a first lieutenant, a second lieutenant, and captain.

An avid sportsman, he enjoyed soccer, snow skiing, scuba diving, and water skiing.

Mr Mahana attended St Edward the Confessor Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 21 in St Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield. Burial followed in St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
