The staff and Board of Directors of Newtown Youth Services would like to thank all those who so generously donated their time and talent to the success of our Annual Dinner Dance. A special thanks to our sponsors, those who donated items for the silent auction, and to all the youth who entertained the crowd.

19th Annual NYS Talent Show â Itâs time to dust off those dancing shoes and practice your singing (and so many other talents) for Newtown Youth Services 19th Annual Talent Show. Auditions will take place on Saturday, March 25, from 9 to 11 am, in the Alexandria Room of Edmond Town Hall. Call NYS at 270-4335 to schedule an audition time.

The talent show will take place on Friday, May 12, at Newtown Middle School.

Parent Programs

Hope And Support â This group meets on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30. If you are a parent or guardian with questions or concerns about your childâs possible or confirmed involvement with substances, you are welcome to attend this group.

Grandparentsâ Group â âThe Second Time Around: Raising Your Childrenâs Childrenâ is a new support program for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. This is an ongoing group for which there is no fee. For further information call Roseanne at 270-4335.

Groups for Moms

Moms and Infants Support Group meets on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am.

Gym Time meets on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 am in the Edmond Town Hall gym. This class is for walkers through preschool age children.

Youth Programs

NYCAAP meets on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 pm at the high school.

HSYAB will meet on Monday, March 27, at 2 pm in the high school cafeteria.

SMAD will meet on Wednesday, March 29, at 2 pm in the middle school cafeteria.

Sibshops will meet on Monday, April 3, from 5 to 7 pm.

Children of Divorce will meet on Monday, March 27, from 6 to 7 pm.

All programs take place at Newtown Youth Services, 10 Glen Road in Sandy Hook, unless noted. Call 270-4335 for additional information.

Ah yes, David, clearly the root cause of every problem in our town—from rogue dogs to regional water supply issues—is Jeff Capeci’s inability to check his voicemail or file a letter properly. Forget that state law dictates how Animal Control handles bites, or that the controversial announcement you accuse him of not producing was mailed to most residents, and posted on Aquarion's facebook page. I realize facebook is full of absoutle garbage and is not the best place to get real information but when it comes from a company, generally it has been vetted. Regardless, you are right, if only Jeff had a bigger Post-it note pad, all would be "nicer in Newtown".

We Need A First Selectman Who Cares

The behavior displayed by some members of the public during the recent Planning & Zoning meeting was disappointing, if not downright shameful. Booing and speaking over our all-volunteer, elected commissioners—who have committed countless hours to reviewing applications and hearing public input—isn't civic engagement. It's mob behavior, plain and simple. I frequently refer to this kind of obstructionist outrage as "NIMBY mob mentality," and this was a textbook example. Disagreeing with a decision is one thing; undermining the democratic process through heckling and disrespect is another.

Let's not forget, Mr. Pisani is the same Councilman who suggested building a stadium at the town's newest open space, at 6 Commerce Rd. It seems he missed the point on that one too....

It’s About Dialogue Amongst Neighbors — Not Regulation

Horrifying. And while the First Selectman's non-responsiveness comes to no surprise, it is inexusable. It's not just phone calls that he doesn't rememer receiving. It's also letters and emails, including minor stuff , like.... you know, when Aquarion sent him a letter right after the flood last August, saying there wouldn't be enough water for Newtown for the forseeable future....a letter that he told me he didn't remember getting, and didn't have, when I asked about it in February or March, and that he only produced and acted on after I obtained a copy of the same letter from Bethel's First Selectman. Newtown deserves better.

Is Mr. Pisani just as frustrated with the Republicans on the Legislative Council who voted "No," or is his anger reserved for Democrats and the many residents of Newtown who disagreed with him?
