UUCD To Celebrate Dedication Weekend

DANBURY — The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Danbury (UUCD) will celebrate the formal dedication of its new fellowship hall during the weekend of March 24-26. Located at 24 Clapboard Ridge Road in Danbury, the new facility culminates a ten-year effort by the congregation to move to a larger and more central location from its former home in West Redding.  Inaugural services were held on Sunday, November 6, 2005.

The celebratory weekend begins with a Friday evening congregation dinner to recognize and thank those who helped guide the project for so many years. On Sunday, March 26, there will be special dedication services at 9 and 11 am led by the Reverend Dr Linda Hansen, minister of UUCD.

The highlight of the weekend is will be a formal dedication event featuring keynote speaker Dr William Schulz, executive director of Amnesty International USA. Dr Schulz’s address will be “Tainted Legacy: 9/11 and the Ruin of Human Rights.” He will speak on the effect the war has had on current events, human rights, social justice and U.S. foreign policy.

Dr Schulz’s lecture will be on Sunday, March 26, at 3 pm, at the Charles Ives Concert Hall on the campus of Western Connecticut State University.  The public is invited and details can be obtained on the congregation’s website at UUDanbury.org.

The Rev Linda Hansen remarked that “we are excited to be formally celebrating our move to Danbury and thrilled that an individual of Dr. Schulz’s prominence would come to share in our celebration and address a topic important to us all.”

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Danbury is a religious community founded in 1822 as the Danbury Universalist Church. Unitarian Universalism welcomes people with many different religious backgrounds and all who seek a liberal religious home regardless of race, age, or sexual orientation.

Sunday services are held at 9 and 11 am and religious education and child care are available.
