âCompanyâ Coming To Sherman
SHERMAN â Despite the snowstorms of the past weeks, the cast of The Sherman Playersâ spring production of Stephen Sondheimâs landmark musical Company has been rehearsing in the Sherman Playhouse.
Company, with music and lyrics by Sondheim and books by George Furth, opens Friday, April 6. There be no Saturday performance this weekend because of Passover, but the show will then continue to run Friday and Saturday nights from April 13 through May 5, with Sunday matinees on April 22 and 29.
Lanny Mitchell is the director and choreographer, and Joanne F. Spring is the musical director and pianist, with Charles Smith on keyboards. Dave Wonsey and John Pokorny will share the job of percussionist.
Company is essentially an ensemble piece, except for Robert, around whom the story revolves. Robert, played by the director-choreographer Lanny Mitchell, is single and happy, although he sometimes feels something is missing in his life. Three girlfriends and five couples try to convince him of the advantages of a commitment to love and marriage.
Phoebe Hodge and Lori Metcalf are the producers of Company, which marks the opening of The Sherman Players 75th season.
Curtain times for Company are Friday and Saturday nights at 8:30, with Sunday matinees at 3. Senior citizens are invited to the dress rehearsal free of charge Wednesday night, April 4, at 8:30. The opening night audience is invited to a traditional wine and cheese party at 8.
Ticket prices for Sherman Players musicals are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and students. For reservations, call the Sherman Playhouse box office at 860-355-3622. The playhouse is at the junction of routes 37 and 39, behind Sherman Firehouse.
