NEW HAVEN - Some 20 swimmers from the Newtown Torpedoes age group swim team, sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, participated in the Yankee Swim League All Star meet on March 3 at Yale University in New Haven.
NEW HAVEN â Some 20 swimmers from the Newtown Torpedoes age group swim team, sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, participated in the Yankee Swim League All Star meet on March 3 at Yale University in New Haven.
Swimmers had to place first, second or third in an individual event at the league championships in order to qualify. Swimmers also had to swim in a total of five events â butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley â and cumulative times recorded and used for rankings.
For the Torpedoes:
Boys 6 and under â Mason West finished second at 4:03.23; Boys 8 and under â Kyle OâConnor was second at 3:05.34, Conor Deveney was third at 3:08.02, Michael Hubbard was seventh at 3:19.43, Luke Fiore was eighth at 3:30.26, and Sam Hoagland was 11th at 3:35.91; Girls 8 and under â Maggie Atkinson was seventh at 3:26.91; Boys 9 and 10 â Stefan Toi was third at 3:45.46 and Anthony Fiore was 13th at 4:13.87; Girls 9 and 10 â Lisa Isabella was 11th at 4:15.53 and Emma Atkinson was 13th at 4:18.08; Boys 11 and 12 â Zachary Moliver was 17th at 4:08.40; Girls 11 and 12 â Abby Atkinson was first at 3:20.63, Maggie Hemingway was fourth at 3:27.71, Liz Gugino was ninth at 3:38.88, and Maricate Conlon was 12th at 3:42.83; Boys 13 and 14 â Jay Schunter was first at 3:15.12, Jake Maher was eighth at 3:51.58, and Andrew Heller was 12th at 4:03.53; Girls 13 and 14 â Amy Robinson was eighth at 3:34.54.
