With both the first- and second-place teams eliminated, it is all going to come down to the Purple Splash and the Blazinâ Booties in the finals of the Parks and Recreation Departmentâs Girls Senior Basketball League.
For the third-place Splash (7-3), it was all about the intangibles like defense and rebounding and passing and for the height-disadvantaged fifth-place Booties (who were all of 4-6 during the regular season) it was all about shooting â and hitting â from the perimeter.
The Splash defeated the Thundercats, 33-24, in the semi-finals as Colleen Davis canned 22 points. Elena Tennenbaum, Kaitlin Barry, Janie Zingoni and Monica Zigman all had solid games for the Splash. For the âCats, Erin Saunders, Ashleigh Smarrella, Laura Howard, Angela Shannon and Kelli Peterman played well despite a tough, tough shooting night.
The Booties defeated the Killer Smurfs, 51-38, as Kim Allen tossed in 13 points and Michele Nelson added 12 points. Caitlin Martin, Kate Bouteiller and Lorraine Narel all played well. For the Smurfs, Mary Bell canned 13 points and Kelly Collier added nine. Becky McCullough, Meghan Byrnes and Carrie Young all had solid games.
The championship game was Wednesday (after press time). All Star games were set for Thursday.
