School Bd To Meet With Legislators

Newtown Board of Education members will take time out of their workshop meeting on Tuesday, April 3, to discuss the need for more state aid for the local school district with state legislators.

State legislators – Republican State Senator John McKinney from the 28th district; Republican State Representatives Julia Wasserman, 106th district, Pat Shea, 112th district, and John Stripp, 135th district – all plan to attend next Tuesday night’s meeting as long as the legislature is not in session and there are no conflicting committee meetings they may need to attend. The meeting with the legislators is set to begin at 7:30 pm in the board meeting room at Canaan House at Fairfield Hills.

The Newtown Board of Education is looking for ways to find additional funding in hopes of replacing funding for eight teachers that was cut from this year’s budget by the Legislative Council. Voters will decide at the end of April whether or not to pass the school district’s budget of $42.4 million.

The school board meeting will begin at 6:30 pm with the Newtown Middle School’s School Improvement Plan.
