Office Of The Victim Advocate Announces Public Hearing, March 31

The Office of the Victim Advocate has announced that the Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, March 31, at 10 am, via Zoom. The public hearing can be viewed via YouTube Live and may be recorded and broadcast live on CT-N.com. This proposed resolution will begin to address the lack of enforcement of crime victims’ constitutional and statutory rights.

Resolution proposing a constitutional amendment to remove a prohibition against construing the constitution or statute to create a basis for a criminal conviction to be vacated or appealed if a victim is not afforded his or her rights in court.

“Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to remove a prohibition against construing the Constitution or statute to create a basis for a criminal conviction to be vacated or appealed if a victim is not afforded his or her rights in court?”

Individuals who wish to testify via Zoom must register using the Online Testimony Registration Form. Registration will close on Tuesday, March 30, at 3 pm. The speaker order of approved registrants will be listed in a randomized order and posted on the Judiciary Committee website on March 31, at 8 am, under Public Hearing Testimony.

If you do not have internet access, you may provide testimony via telephone. To register to testify by phone, call the Phone Registrant Line at 860-240-5255 to leave your contact information. Please e-mail written testimony in Word or PDF format to Judtestimony@cga.ct.gov. Testimony should clearly state testifier name and related bill/resolution. The Committee requests that testimony be limited to matters related to the items on the Agenda.
