Sitework began this week for the state Department of Transportation's Sugar Street (Route 302) bridge replacement project in the area between The Ram Pasture and The Pleasance.

Workers are recontouring the site to allow several utility poles to be relocated. The new bridge is intended to alleviate a traffic bottleneck where congestion occurs during the morning and evening rush periods.

Alternating one-way traffic will be required occasionally as the project progresses.

The bridge work is scheduled to be completed by November 2018.
