Ingersoll Auto of Danbury is the main sponsor for Newtown High School’s upcoming two spring musicals, and Ingersoll Automotive President Todd Ingersoll delivered the donation to the school on March 19.

The $7,500 donation also marked a milestone: To date Ingersoll Auto of Danbury has donated more than $100,000 to the NHS musical programs. It has also supported the school with other donations throughout the years.

Meeting up with NHS Choral Director Jane Matson, who is directing and choreographing both spring productions, and NHS theatre arts/English language arts teacher and auditorium manager Janice Gabriel, who is one of the producers for the musicals, Ingersoll handed off “the check” and learned that students have been busy and productive in the making of both musicals so far.

Freshmen and sophomores are readying Godspell to stream online for audiences on Friday, April 23, at 7 pm, and juniors and seniors are preparing The Mystery of Edwin Drood to stream online for audiences on Friday, May 28, at 7 pm. The dates may change, due to the ongoing pandemic.

Tickets, in the form of a streaming pass, will be available to purchase online. There will be no in-person audience performances for either show.

Both musicals are rehearsing at the same time, though with students not all together. Masks, spacing, and other precautions are followed at all times, as previously reported in The Newtown Bee.
