Rev Up Post-Prom Party Excitement
On Sunday, March 26, Janis Solheim, PTA president in charge of the high school post-prom party, received a phone call from Jim Marcucelli, the owner of Berkshire Motors, who offered to help with an important detail for the party; locating a car to be raffled off during the event.
Mr Marcucelli recently read in The Bee that the PTA was seeking the donation of a car, in good working condition, to be raffled off as a prize to a student at the post-prom party scheduled for May 20. He called Mrs Solheim to offer his assistance, saying he would keep his eye open for an appropriate vehicle. In addition, Mr Marcucelli suggested that if someone in the community had a car they wished to donate, he would transport the car to his shop, which is located directly across from the high school, and give the car a complete check over. He also said that if a car is donated requiring a small amount of work he would complete the work, donating his time and materials.
By offering to raffle off a car at the post-prom party Mrs Solheim hopes to attract more students to attend the alcohol-free party. âI hope parents encourage their students to come to the post-prom party. We will have a disc jockey, a band, an arcade of games, ping pong, foosball, as well popcorn, snow cone, and cotton candy machines,â she said.
In addition to a car being raffled off, a laptop computer and gift certificate to Radio Shack have also been donated as raffle items. A student must be present to be eligible to win raffle items.
The post-prom party will take place in the high school gymnasium and will begin at midnight and run until 5 am on Saturday, May 20. The post-prom party is open to all Newtown High School juniors and seniors and their dates. Students do not have to attend the prom to attend the post-prom.
Those wishing to volunteer in organizing and supervising the event are invited to attend the Post-prom Planning Committee meeting on Monday, April 3 at 7 pm in room B152. Anyone wishing to donate a car for the raffle may contact Jim Marcucelli of Berkshire Motors at 270-0660.
