RIDGEFIELD â For anyone who has ever wondered how a movie gets made; how a script, no matter how good, still needs a major star as an anchor for foreign sales; or what happens when a major backer backs out, the answers to these challenges and others will be presented when The Ridgefield Playhouse Film Society presents a movie premiere on Friday, April 7.
Brooklyn Rules â starring Alex Baldwin, written by Terence Winter (âThe Sopranosâ) and directed by Michael Corrente (American Buffalo, Outside Providence) â will be the eveningâs feature. The film will be screened at 7:30 pm.
Mr Winter and Mr Corrente will on hand to questions at the Q&A following the screening, hosted by Morton Dean and Ira Joe Fisher. The screening is part of the playhouseâs Premiere Film Series.
Brooklyn Rules, which started life as Nailed Right In, is set in the early 80s against the backdrop of John Gottiâs rise to power in the Gambino crime family. It is the story of three young friends, one (Carmine, played by Scott Caan) is courted by mob boss Caesar Manganaro (Baldwin), a fact that causes a struggle between the bonds of loyalty and the rules of the street with the two other friends Michael (Freddie Prinze, Jr) and Bobby (Jerry Ferrara).
The script, says Mr Winter, âis 60 percent true. The main characters and their relationships to one another are all accurate. I worked in a delicatessen after school just like Michaelâs character, hanging out with my friends in Brooklyn while attending college in the city, yearning for a better life.â
Seating is reserved and advance reservations are suggested. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for senior, and $7.50 student. Call the box office at 203-438-5795.
