Town & Country Garden Club of Newtown is planning a return visit by Michele MacKinnon (pictured), who will present “Dahlias: Not Your Mama’s Passé Flowers,” on Wednesday, April 12, at 7 pm.

The program will be at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street.

MacKinnon is a lively, trusted garden expert with a growing following. Her talks and articles reflect her unceasing focus on continuous learning, experimentation, and careful observation of plant and wildlife behaviors in her own garden. She has been a guest of Town & Country Garden Club for many seasons.

She studied landscape design at New York Botanical Garden. She is a UConn certified Advanced Master Gardener, a CT Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) Accredited Organic Land-Care Professional, and a member of Sherman Conservation Commission.

MacKinnon lives and gardens in a pollinator-friendly setting in Sherman.

Her presentation will include luscious graphics, the explosive revival of this old-fashioned flower, growing tips, today’s most popular cultivars, and where to find them.

The Town & Country Garden Club is a small and energetic club which has been a staple of Newtown for almost 60 years. New members are always welcomed.

In addition to offering similar monthly programs, the club designs and maintains three of Newtown’s main traffic islands, is involved in many community and volunteer events, actively supports the protection of Newtown’s environment, and offers scholarships to local students.
