Belated Congratulations

To the Editor:

Although this letter should have been written over one year ago, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Andrew Fiscella on his success on the basketball court. Having just found out, I read with great excitement about Andrew’s accomplishments, and, in becoming the leading scorer in NHS history. More importantly, I understand Andrew’s greatness doesn’t stop at the gym door!

With all the traveling I have done over the last 20-plus years, I haven’t had the opportunity to stay as up to date on the happenings in and around Newtown as I would have liked. I want to personally congratulate everyone who has played a part, both big and small, in the development of Newtown as a great community, the support of all it’s children and students, and the support of Newtown athletics.

I, personally, am very proud to have been positively influenced by the many great coaches, teachers, and parents in and around Newtown. I’m very proud to be able to say that I am from Newtown.

If Andrew Fiscella is reading this, I’d like to say “Awesome job, Andrew!” and “Awesome job Newtown!”

Steve Kordish

2717 Seville Boulevard

Clearwater, Florida 33764                                           March 25, 2005

(Editor’s note: Steve Kordish was the first 1,000-point scorer in Newtown High School history and finished his career in 1979 with 1,281 points. Andrew Fiscella broke Kordish’s record on February 7, 2004, against Joel Barlow and finished his career with 1,476 points. Coincidentally, Kelley Haines broke the Newtown High School girls’ scoring record on the very same night.)
