Lions Plan Pancake Breakfast

The Lions Club of Newtown in conjunction with the Leo Club from Newtown High School will hold a pancake breakfast, from 7:30 am to noon, on Saturday, April 16, at the United Methodist Church on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook.

Funds raised from the breakfast will be contributed to the support of the tercentennial Edmond Town Hall restoration and will supplement the funding already committed by the Lions Club.

The Edmond Town Hall is an important historical and cultural center for Newtown residents, not the least of which is the movie theater in which feature films are offered for a $2 ticket price. In addition to town services, the town hall features Park and Recreation events and other theatrical and cultural events and holds meetings for many local charitable and civic groups.

The Newtown Lions Club is very active in supporting the local community. It raises funds in support of the Newtown Fuel Bank, Meals on Wheels, the Newtown Fire Commission, Women in Newtown, Newtown Youth Services, Ability Beyond Disability, the Newtown Fund Christmas Baskets, Family Counseling Center, and many other community activities and agencies. It is also actively involved in providing manpower for community activities such as local blood drives, renovation of trails at the Orchard Hills Park, construction of the playgrounds at Treadwell Park. “We are dedicated to helping enrich this magnificent community in which we live,” club members note.

The Leo Club is a student organized and operated program at Newtown High School whose goal is to teach young people how to organize and contribute to community service projects. The Lions Club stepped forward to sponsor this club when the Key Club was discontinued after the Kiwanis Club stopped operating in town. The Leos have been active in most of the service projects that the Lions have participated in over the last couple of years.

Tickets are adults, $6; seniors, $4; children 6–12, $2; children 5 and under, free.
