Sixth Generation Resident Donates
ETH Seat In Honor Of Class of 1959
June Meyers Hanna has always loved her graduating class. The 64 members in the class of 1959 have been unusually close. Most classmates have enthusiastically attended the yearly reunions, most of them held at Ms Hannaâs home in Newtown.
To commemorate her affection for the Class of 1959, the last class to hold graduation ceremonies on the stage at Edmond Town Hall, Ms Hanna has bought a theater seat in support of the Newtown Lions Clubâs ETH Seats Project.
Ms Hanna comes from a family that has lived in Newtown for many years. Longtime residents will recall Ms Hannaâs much-loved parents, Earl and Grace Meyers, who ran the Newtown General Store for more than 40 years.
âCounting my grandchildren, there have been seven generations of us [in Newtown],â Ms Hannah said. âMany of my ancestors are buried in the Zoar Cemetery.â
The Lions Club project is dedicated to replacing all the main level seats in the auditorium and refurbishing the upstairs seats by the end of the townâs Tercentennial Year.
âIf the cost of a whole seat, which is $300 complete with a dedication plaque on the back, seems too pricey, then [donors can send] in a smaller contribution. Any donation we receive will be very welcome,â said Gordon Williams, chairman of the project.
Anyone can make a contribution by sending a tax-deductible check made out to the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers to the Newtown Lions Club, attn: G. Williams, PO Box 218, Newtown CT 06470. Be sure to write âtown hall seatsâ in the memo area of the check.
