VNA Awards Clow Scholarship To NHS Graduate

Lauren Hanulik, a 2009 high honors graduate of Newtown High School, was presented with The Anna E. Clow Scholarship by Newtown Visiting Nurses Association on March 10.

The Clow Scholarship is a $4,000 award, available to students entering a nursing program awarding an RN or BSN degree.

Ms Hanulik is currently a sophomore on the Dean’s List at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, pursuing her bachelor’s of science in nursing degree. She has begun her clinical rotation and plans to graduate in May 2013.

While pursuing her degree, Ms Hanulik has worked as a mentor through The Lighthouse Program in the Bridgeport elementary schools, as well as an academic tutor for the university’s Division I Athletics Department. She has been active as a team captain and committee member for Sacred Heart’s Relay For Life, and plans to continue some internship programs over the summer.

She is the daughter of Graceann and Christopher Hanulik of Newtown.

Additional VNA Awards

Newtown VNA is currently accepting applications for its four annual scholarship awards.

In addition to The Anna E. Clow Scholarship, the local VNA also offers The Newtown VNA Scholarship, a $4,000 award that also goes to a student entering a nursing program that awards an RN or BSN degree; The Janice B. Von Syckle Scholarship, a $2,500 award for a student entering a nursing program awarding a BSN degree; and The Mary M. Holian-VNA Scholarship, a $2,000 award available to Newtown residents resuming or continuing their academic study in nursing with studies toward their RN, BSN, MSN, APN, or PhD.

Applications for the first three awards above are available at the Newtown High School Career Center. Deadline for this scholarship season is April 26, and announcement of the award winners will be made at the NHS Awards Night on June 1. Scholarship monies will be awarded to the recipient once he or she has entered the clinical portion of their nursing program (at least the second year of their program).

Applicants for the Holian scholarship must be entering their second year of studies providing they have completed their first year within the last five years, or have changed their college major to nursing and are entering their second year of training.
