Robert J. Carroll

Former Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps Chief And Active Town Member

Robert J. Carroll, 66, of Milford, Mass., formerly of Newtown, died March 25, at Blaire House in Milford. He was born in Newark, N.J., son of Jeanne (Nolan) and Robert J. Carroll.

Mr Carroll served in the US Air Force from 1964 to 1966. Following his service he became an apprentice electrician. After obtaining his master electrician license he was employed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 488, for 41 years.

Mr Carroll also served as a volunteer for Newtown Volunteer Ambulance for 31 years as an EMT-IV technician. He also served as assistant chief and chief of Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Mr Carroll was also very active in local government and served on various town boards within Newtown.

He was a very caring and compassionate man with a wonderful sense of humor. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. All who knew him will miss him.

He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Carroll and Steven Cochran, and Aimee Murray and her husband, Christopher; six brothers, five sisters, four grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his former wife and friend Cynthia (Boyle) Carroll. One brother predeceased him.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a time and place to be announced.
