Very few teams enjoy perfect seasons, but Newtown’s varsity and junior varsity Winter Guard teams both finished the regular season undefeated after another pair of wins at Shelton High School on Saturday, March 26.

The junior varsity team posted a solid 83.75, while the varsity team racked up a season-high score of 85.00.

The 22 students from Newtown Middle School and Newtown High School have one final opportunity ahead of them: the 2022 Musical Arts Conference (MAC) Winter Guard Championships, hosted at NHS, 12 Berkshire Road, for the first time. On Saturday, April 2, teams from Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey will converge on the Sandy Hook campus for two full shows, after which the MAC season champions will be crowned.

The first show kicks off at 3 pm for the middle school and AA classes with awards slated for 4:30 pm. Show officials will clear the competition venue to prepare for the second show, which starts at 6:15 pm. Doors open at 5:15 pm with a powerhouse lineup of high school squads from across the region and college teams, including University of Connecticut, University of New Haven, and Sacred Heart University. World Guard International teams Alter Ego and Fusion top off an exciting lineup before the 2022 season wraps up with a 9 pm awards ceremony.

Tickets are $17 for adults and $10 for children for each show and must be purchased online at gofan.co/app/school/CT20032.
