A Good Dog Warden

Gets Fired

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter to let the public know that Carolee Mason has been fired from her position of animal control officer.

If anyone has been down to the pound in the last five years, then you know what a amazing job she has done, not only for the animals, but also for the people of this town. I could go on and on about how many animals she has taken in herself, took care of them at her own house. I could go on and on about what she has bought for that pound out of her own money, but I don’t need to. The town of Newtown already knows this about her.

Why, when you have someone taking the job seriously and going way beyond the call of duty, do they get fired? What type of message is the town trying to send? Some of the reasons for her getting fired were so sickening.

Carolee has done nothing wrong, has had good intentions the whole time, and for the town to say that she has failed to maintain and manage the Newtown Animal Control Shelter… I feel that the animal shelter is the only thing in this town that is actually managed well. There are some organizations in this town who I feel have had a say in her getting fired, and this has become something political. This organization in town has lost track of helping dogs in need and have only focused on a new building. Please, make sure you donate only to people who are in it for helping animals. Now, we need the town support, and if Carolee has touched your life in some way then please write to the first selectman, let him know what a mistake he has made. Not only is the public going to suffer, but most importantly the animals will.

Mom, you have done a great job, and we are so proud of you.
