State Police Investigate Two Incidents At Garner Prison

State police report that two criminal investigations are underway stemming from incidents that occurred March 24 at Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road.

A correction officer reported to state police that at about 1 pm, he was struck in the back by an object that was thrown at him by an unidentified inmate as he walked past that inmate’s prison cell.

The correction officer was not injured, state police said.

Also, state police went to Garner at about 8:30 pm in response to a complaint that a 38-year-old inmate there had assaulted and threatened a prison staff member. The prison staffer was not injured, state police said. That inmate is serving a sentence on a conviction for violation of probation.

State police said they are investigating both incidents in terms of filing criminal charges against the offenders.
