With local school buildings closed and many workers now working from home, The Newtown Bee asked local residents to submit photos and descriptions of the new “at home” life.

The pictures submitted for the week of April 3 show students venturing outside, completing school assignments, and monitoring siblings while they work.

Adults are home, too, of course, and for those working from home, family pets can prove to be adorable distractions, as proven by an accompanying photo.

Scroll through the photos above to see what residents are doing "at home."

Alex Gibson, a first grader at Head O’ Meadow Elementary School and his younger brother Nick recently explored Brunot Preserve in Newtown, pictured. Mom Jessica Gibson says, “We have been going on lots of hikes… Alex has been using the computer for reading and math programs (combined with traditional books, paper, and pencil learning). Yesterday we skipped math worksheets and did ‘muffin math’ in the kitchen. Fractions and measuring were a hit!”
Sandy Hook resident Mary Ann Jacob shared this view of her family’s dogs Calvin, left, and Franklin “helping us work from home.” Other recent updates in the home include repurposing the kitchen table for an office, making the garage a workout space, and completed “puzzles to relax.”
Sandy Hook resident Kai Sander submitted this photo of kindergartener Dean Sander “during our new daily homeschooling routine.”
Sandy Hook resident Marianne Pote submitted this photo of her grandson, Wes Pote, taking advantage of temporary snowy weather on March 23.
Newtown resident Merredith Christos reports that Andy Christos, 10, celebrated his March 22 birthday with an online Zoom call “with some friends and family. His original party was canceled but we wanted to show him his friends were still thinking of him and sending birthday cheer. The call was a bit chaotic, but we were all able to sing Happy Birthday and he blew out his candles... just like every year before. The world might be on pause, but birthdays must be celebrated.”
Henry Murphy, center, 3, recently supervised his older siblings Jack, front, 6, and Maggie, 9, while they completed Hawley Elementary School assignments. Mother Beth Murphy reports, “Changing out of pajamas in the morning is optional!”
Hope Stevens submitted this photo of Sandy Hook residents and students Ella and Connor Viau working diligently recently.
Jennie Nowacki of Sandy Hook recently submitted this photo of Allison Nowacki working on schoolwork at home while the family’s pigeon, Snow, perches on the computer monitor.
Sandy Hook School first grader Blake McRae was all smiles recently while working on her distance learning, as photographed by mom Brenda McRae.
Sandy Hook Elementary School kindergarten student Nathan Depaolo works on a math assignment recently, as captured by Anouk Depaolo.
Middle Gate Elementary School student Leah Mangino recently worked on schoolwork while her father Ryan Mangino watched, as captured by her mother, Karen Mangino.
Kristine Viglietta submitted this picture of Middle Gate Elementary School student Collin Viglietta working on reading homework on April 1.
Rachel, 7, Kelly, 3, and Hope Schweikert, 8, recently took a hike through their Newtown yard, as captured by mom Erica Schweikert.
Kellyn, left, and Karli Thompson, both fourth grade students at Sandy Hook Elementary School, pause from working on their Chromebooks to smile at their mother, Karen Thompson, who took the photo.
