Understanding Special Education

BETHEL â Western Connecticut Association for Human Rights (WeCAHR) will present âUnderstanding Special Education,â a workshop for parents, Saturday, April 19. Cost is $10 per person.

The workshop will run from 9 am to 3:30 pm; registration will open at 8:45. Topics to be covered will include special education law, the IEP, parent observations and organization; goals, objectives, modifications, and accommodations; transition, advocacy and partnership, and best outcome.

The workshop will be presented at Ability Beyond Disability, first floor conference room. ABD is at 4 Berkshire Drive.

Breakfast, coffee, lunch, and beverages will be provided. Childcare stipends and scholarships are available, but please note there will not be any child care on site. WeCAHR is a CEU provider.

Space is limited so reservations are strongly suggested. Call Linda Rietschel at 792-3540 for reservations or additional information.

On the contrary, Mitch and the other Republicans in the CT legislature have been continually calling for a special session since you got your first nasty surprise in the mail from eversource. Feel free to sign the petition if you feel so strongly about the recent price hike at www.SpecialSessionCT.com - Meanwhile, Lamont and the rest of the CT Dems have been ignoring this request because the huge increase in the public benefits charge is EXACTLY what they wanted. A vote for Michelle Embree Ku will only strengthen Lamont's majority party and encourage more stealth tax packages in the CT legislature and energy policies. Lamont also elected to shutter the trash-to-energy plant in Hartford creating a twofer: trash crisis and energy crisis. We need to re-elect Mitch not only because he's done a great job for Newtown but because we need an advocate to continue fighting the out of control (stealth) tax policies that are harming Newtown ratepayers and CT business as a whole. - Dylan Thomas Butterfield Rd

A Candidate’s Promise: Attention To Traffic Concerns

Michelle I applaud and support you for focusing on the issues that impact everyone in the town. The next priority has to be on CT's out of control electricity rates. Your opponent and his supporters are quick to blame the other side of the aisle and have given up on trying to accomplish anything. You need to be the voice at the Capitol that the town needs and has missed for so long.

After your short sighted decisions on bussing, something parents are still feeling the repercussions of, I would not want you making any decisions on traffic.
