Choral Society

To Salute Phobias

“Phobias, The Music,” will be the spring presentation of Newtown Choral Society on Saturday, April 28, at Newtown Meeting House. The performance will begin at 7:30 pm.

Under the direction of Mary Andreotta, and accompanied by Susan Anthony-Klein, the choir will explore the wonderful world of phobias through music that enhances each fear.

The music will span the centuries, beginning with Matthew Harris’s “You Spotted Snakes” from Shakespeare’s Song Book (Ophidiophobia) to Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (Potamophobia). It will also include Stephen Sondheim’s “Send in the Clowns” (Coulrophobia), as well as ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” and Loggins & Messina’s “Your Mama Don’t Dance”, in honor of Chorophobia.

The choir will also be performing a favorite song that didn’t seem to have a phobia attached to it.  So…the choir invented one.

The choir invites even those with Phobophobia (Fear of phobias) to attend the concert.

Tickets are $10 and $8 for seniors and students at the door. Send email to lel-choirs2@se-ltd.com or call 203-426-3769 for additional information.
