Newtown EDC Hosting Workshops For Budding Entrepreneurs

The Newtown Economic Development Commission is sponsoring four Entrepreneur Workshops that are free and open to the public. The workshops will be presented by the Connecticut Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in the Lecture Hall at the Newtown High School. All workshops will conducted from 6 to 8 pm.

The first workshop, “Entrepreneur Self Assessment: Do You Have What It Takes?,” is slated for Tuesday, April 24. Attendees will explore the pros and cons of owning a business, characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, and more.

The next workshop will cover “Starting Your Connecticut Business: A Step-By-Step Guide,” and will occur Thursday, April 26. Attendees will learn the process that is key to starting a business in Connecticut. The workshop leader will discuss options for business structures, insurance, tax considerations, state and city agencies, and availability of financial assistance.

“Writing A Business Plan: Your Company’s Roadmap,” will take place over two sessions Tuesday, May 1, and Thursday, May 3. During these sessions, advisors will provide hands-on instruction with counseling.

Participants will learn how to conduct a market analysis, prepare a budget, define a business model and how to effectively communicate their business growth strategy. Participants must attend both sessions to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Anyone interested in attending is invited to register online by visiting ctsbdc.org, and clicking on the link for “Events and Workshops.” Or they can contact Newtown Director of Planning and Community Development Elizabeth Stocker at 203-270-4271.
