Flagpole Photographers Programs Update

This month, Flagpole Photographers will be hosting a unique two-part “Black and White” workshop-seminar photography event on Friday and Saturday, April 11-12. The local photography club will also host a regular monthly meeting, and members are invited to compete in any of four photography competitions.

The April 11-12 event will provide a friendly and safe environment to explore new photographic techniques, get quality hands-on instructions in the field, gain a better understanding of cameras and equipment, plus in-depth classroom instruction to improve editing and final image results, and the opportunity to capture the beauty of Newtown.

Presented by New England Photo Workshops, speakers Don Toothaker and Bob Ring will open with a presentation on Friday in The Alexandria Room of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street. The program will begin at 7:30 pm, and all are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

Continuing on Saturday at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, the workshop will begin at 8 am with photography shoot. At noon, there will be a break time to enjoy lunch, or students can continuing photographing if they bring their own lunch. From 1 to 4, students will review and critique images.

While Friday’s presentation is free of charge, the cost of Saturday’s hands-on workshop is $89 (meals are not included).

On Thursday, April 16, Flagpole Photographers Camera Club will host a general meeting and photo competition.

March’s assigned subject is “Opposites.” Club members will be challenged to showcase their creativity for capturing their interpretation of things that appear opposite of each other. There will also be competitions in Digital, Black & White and Open Color.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 pm in the lower meeting room of C.H. Booth Library. The public is welcome to attend and view the photos, but the competition is open only to members. Light refreshments will be served.

Flagpole Photographers is a local non-profit group that enables members to share their images and expertise, to learn and grow in their photography, and to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow photographers. Members come from diverse backgrounds, with photographic skills ranging from beginning novices to professional photographers.

The season runs from September through June. Monthly print competitions are held at the library, as are educational programs., assigned subjects, and programs are included in the schedule at FlagpolePhotographers.com.
